FAQ's

What is a chiropractic adjustment

A chiropractic adjustment uses precise, hands-on techniques to correct misalignments in the spine—known as vertebral subluxations—and relieve tension in or around the spinal column. This process helps remove interferences between the brain and body, restoring harmony to your nervous system.

The nervous system governs every function in the body, from conscious actions like thinking, speaking, and moving, to automatic processes such as heart rate, digestion, and breathing. It operates through a direct connection between the brain and spinal cord.

When the spine is misaligned, communication between the brain and body can become disrupted. This interference may impair the body’s ability to function at its best. Chiropractic adjustments work to correct these disruptions, supporting the body’s natural communication system. By restoring proper spinal alignment, chiropractic care empowers your body’s innate ability to heal, enhancing function and helping you reach your fullest potential.

What is the 'cracking' sound?

We call it a cavitation, that distinctive popping sound some people find satisfying, while others find unsettling. But what exactly is it? It’s simply air being released from the synovial fluid that lubricates your joints. The sound occurs when tiny air bubbles collapse due to a change in pressure within the joint during an adjustment.

I’m scared of the pop! What should I do?

The good news: whether you hear a pop or not, it doesn’t mean your treatment wasn’t effective. In fact, there are many chiropractic techniques that work without causing cavitation at all. These methods adjust the spine using completely different approaches, ensuring your treatment is effective and comfortable for you and even better news Luke is trained in some of these techniques.

Will the adjustment hurt?

Adjustments are gentle, effective, and designed to be pain-free. However, if you’re already experiencing significant discomfort, you may feel some tenderness during or after the process. This is normal, as the body can resist change early in your health journey.

It’s common to notice mild soreness, aches, or fatigue following an adjustment. This happens because your body is entering a parasympathetic state, a state of deep relaxation that supports healing.

The main goal of an adjustment is to release tension and restore balance, helping your body relax and function more effectively. Over time, this promotes comfort, improved well-being, and a greater sense of ease.

How long does it take?

Our adjustments are quick, efficient, and focused on what your body needs most. Follow-up appointments are 20 minutes long, giving you plenty of time for care, conversation, and check-in/check-out. We don't want to take too much time out of your busy day.

Remember, it’s not the length of the adjustment that creates healing, but the consistency. By regularly clearing interference from your nervous system, your body can do what it’s designed to do which is heal naturally. Many people notice changes within hours, and improvements continue over time as your body restores balance.

Does health insurance cover chiropractic?

Chiropractic is covered by most health insurance companies. We regret that treatment funded by the NHS is not provided.

Please check with your insurers to establish the level of your cover and any requirements that they may have, such as a referral letter from your doctor.

Can I see a Chiropractor if I'm pregnant?

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is not only safe but highly beneficial for both mother and baby. Our practice offers gentle, tailored adjustments and we have a specially designed cushion to support your bump, ensuring complete comfort throughout your visit.

As pregnancy progresses, the added weight and shifting posture can place strain on your spine and pelvis. Chiropractic adjustments help restore balance, maintain healthy movement, and support your body as it adapts to these changes.

Keeping the pelvis properly aligned also helps create an ideal environment for your baby to grow and move freely, supporting a more comfortable pregnancy and potentially smoother birth.

Should I still see a Chiropractor if I’m not in any pain?

Yes, chiropractic care is beneficial even when you’re not in pain. Regular check-ups help ensure your spine and nervous system are functioning at their best, much like routine dental visits protect your oral health.

Pain is not always a reliable measure of how well your body is functioning. Often, dysfunction or imbalance begins well before any discomfort is felt. Chiropractic care helps detect and address these issues early, supporting your body’s ability to function, adapt, and heal naturally.

How often will I need to come in?

Every person and every spine is different. Your frequency of care will depend on your health goals, current findings, and how your body responds to adjustments.
Some people begin with more frequent visits to address existing issues, while others come periodically for maintenance and prevention. Your chiropractor will discuss a plan tailored to your needs.

Can Chiropractic care help improve posture and mobility?

Absolutely. Chiropractic adjustments restore movement and alignment in the spine and joints, which helps improve posture, flexibility, and overall function.
Regular care supports your body’s ability to move freely, adapt to stress, and maintain balance, all essential for long-term spinal health.
